“April showers bring May flowers” is a metaphor that reminds us that even after periods of adversity, good times will follow. During challenges in our lives, we learn more about ourselves – how strong we really are or what we are truly made of. Rain can be annoying and sometimes inconvenient, but on the flip side, we need to be mindful that it helps the grass grow and the flowers bloom. If we look on the bright side of things, it makes our lives happier and less stressful.
I traveled a lot this month, and so many people made an impact on me. I could tell you several stories, but one in particular I want to share is about a lady I met in Hastings, Minnesota, where I was going to be speaking for a ladies’ event. Before it started, I had the opportunity to visit with many of the ladies there. As I was talking to one lady, who was extremely kind, we discovered we knew some of the same people and had some things in common. With that week being a particularly busy travel week, I had to schedule some of my conference calls after my programs. This event was over at 1:00 p.m., so I had a conference call scheduled for 3:00 p.m., thinking I would just stay at the venue and make the call there before heading to the next city where I was speaking. She overheard me telling the meeting planner my plan, and she immediately came over to me and said, “Why don’t you just come to my office and make your call?” It was raining that day for me, because I was a bit stressed and facing some adversity, but she became my rain by helping me through the day and made the sun shine with her kindness and generous offer to use her office.
What I didn’t realize was her business was Hastings Family Service, which is a business that reaches out in support to people in the community. I was overwhelmed beyond words as she showed me what they do to support others in their community and how they have over 500 volunteers who help support this business. Now that is true rain pouring over that community. I was so impressed with the generosity of that community and the kindness they show to others. It was a reminder to me that, even during challenging times, we find true sunshine and growth.
Keep focusing on the positive and the value of rain, because April showers bring May flowers, and those flowers are bright and cheerful and that’s what this world needs.
Thank you Amy!
